Put your foot down #23

What’s under my foot?

A T-shirt quilt, my first ever t-shirt quilt.  How have I gone this long without making one escapes me considering all the concert jersey’s I’ve had over the years. This will be a Grateful Dead quilt. The front will be t-shirts and the backing is a flag with their emblem.

There are 2 projects in my book for December. One I was reminded of when catching up with Rosanne’s posts at  Home Sewn by Us for the upcoming Virtual Cookie Exchange Blog Hop. Now how could I have forgotten that?  The next is my December Island Batik monthly challenge. I have it narrowed down to two quilts, now to decide which one. Perhaps I will make both, one for the blog hop and one for the IB challenge.

Monday I shared my finish of the commissioned quilt which was a relief to get that out of the way. Not that it was literally in the way but more of  a nagging voice that reminds you when you’re doing something you clearly shouldn’t  be doing. Because there was not a deadline it kept getting pushed aside for projects with deadlines. I really prefer to work on a quilt from start to finish, when I quit it’s because it is finished. You can see more on it here.

The theme for the Island Batik fall blog hop is “A Piece Of…”. We are left to interpret it as we like and the finish does not have to fit the theme. When I think “a piece of” the two things that come to mind are chocolate and mosaics, not in that particular order but usually.  I love ancient mosaics and draw a lot of inspiration from their design.  Do you realize many of our quilt blocks  can be found in ancient mosaic floors, murals and baths?

Your shares from #22

The oldest quilt you will see today (here anyway) was shared by Sew Yummy. I was so impressed that she has finished 17 UFO’s this year  and this quilt was one of them.

This labor of love was shared by Storied Quilts and is one of two charity quilts she’s made. Your quilt is amazing Vasudha.

  1. The Grateful Dead t-shirt quilt will be awesome! I have threatened to take some of my husband’s many event t-shirts for a quilt. But he loves all of them, and rotates through wearing them. So…..

    1. Then you best leave them alone, wouldn’t want to upset his process. This has been an interesting experience to say the least. Bet I don’t make another any time soon.

  2. Hi Denise! I applaud you, and I’m amazed by your ability to work on just one project at a time. I don’t think that has ever happened for me. Well, maybe my very first quilt. I suspect I may have a bit of ADD or something because I like to bounce around on different projects, although it’s annoying to have to switch the thread color or pressor foot! Your party isn’t open yet but I’ll be back to add and read. ~smile~ Roseanne
